Why Music is The Best Thing In The World.

Updated: Mar 31, 2022

Hello everyone, this post is going to be me talking about something I truly love: Music.

Music comes in all sorts of forms and styles. It’s all unique to our tastes and to each of us out there. There is so much unheard-of music that we haven’t even touched yet, but that’s what makes it special- the mere thought of knowing there's more out there.

The reason why I’m talking about it today is because I love music so much that there are not enough words for me to express that. Every time I’m in the car with my friends and we’re listening to my playlists, I usually go on a ramble about why I like music or why I listen to the artists that I do.

A lot of my friends tell me I have a very broad range of music. I’d like to take that as a compliment because I like being able to listen to all sorts of music and listen to low-key artists. After all, usually, their songs are always the best. But the most refreshing feeling is listening to a low-key artist and then watching them grow big, you can rightfully say that you’ve been there from the very start and that is always a great feeling.

I know a lot of people out there don’t feel the same way and would prefer to keep their lowkey music to themselves because they don’t want to ruin that special connection they have with it but I personally don’t feel that way. I feel that all music should be shared with the world so then everyone has a connection to it too. It’s such a beautiful thing that the world should have and I’ll never gate-keep my stuff away from others.

If anyone knows me, they know that I am a religious playlist maker. I currently right now have 44 playlists… that's a lot... I know. But here is why I have so many.

I'd like to think of myself as a pretty organized person and with becoming this person I tend to have a lot of emotions and feelings and I feel that every playlist I make should have its own genuine purpose. I have a playlist for every situation in my life and a lot of you guys will read this and think “Why waste so much time on them when you can just have a few playlists” and I don't think anyone will ever truly understand where I get at when I make so many playlists because so many people bash on me for it. I also do get the "Do you actually listen to all of them?" and the answer is yes.

I know friends who have two main playlists that have every single song they really like so it will usually be over 20 hours long, friends with a few playlists that only have two hours worth of music on each of them, Friends who have no idea what to name their playlist so they just name it “Playlist” and then I have the Friends who don't even have playlists but listen to others.

Regardless of who you are, music is still very pivotal in a person's life and I truly believe that. Although there are some people out there who don't listen to music every single day… and that to me just seems nearly impossible.

The reason why I'm writing this post is because about two weeks ago a friend had told me how someone we knew would literally never play music in the car. I was so shocked to hear that there are people out there who don't play music when they're in the car. I understand if you have an older car and you can't connect to Bluetooth or if the aux doesn't work, but in this case, it was purely by choice that he doesn't play music in his car.

In my instance, I have a pretty new-ish car and I use Bluetooth but the problem with that sometimes is that it doesn't connect. This is really only happened to me twice but both of the times my phone would be connected and then all of a sudden as I'm driving it just stops connecting and refuses to connect and then I basically get mad the entire car ride home that I don't get to listen to music and it's just this awkward silence. Yes, I can turn on the radio but the thing with my car is the radio is really weird and it automatically goes to the sports radio which is fine by me because I love sports but sometimes I just wanna listen to music.

Later that night I got home and looked on my Spotify on my laptop. Sometimes at night, I listen to music on there and if you've ever looked at Spotify on a computer, on the right-hand side it shows the music that your friends are listening to and even though it's almost always wrong, it amazes me sometimes when I see that some of my friends haven't listened to music in over two days or more. For me personally, there's not a single day where I don't listen to music. Even if I'm in a place that has no Internet I usually listen to my downloaded playlists because I can't live without music.

When I'm bored I'll listen to music, when I'm tired I'll listen to some slow music, when I'm studying I'll listen to music, and even with my friends I will be listening to music. I never understood how people could go so long and not listen to anything and when I usually ask this question they tell me that they don't feel the need to have to and then again I'm just as shocked when they tell me that. Maybe I'll never understand but this was something that I was thinking about for so long. I’ve had this draft sitting in my notes for a little bit over a week now and I just forgot all about it until today.

But anyway, music is different for everyone. We all use it in different situations but it's what makes us unique. I'm not here saying that my music taste is the greatest because I think that every single person has their own music and as long as you

like the stuff that you listen to, then that’s all that matters.

Even though I listen to a very wide range of music, my music style has shifted a lot throughout the years. When I was younger I would just listen to songs on the radio and basically any popular pop song there was. Once I got into middle school I started listening to rap music. I feel like everybody gets into rap music sometime in middle school and usually that kind of sticks with you throughout your teenage years. But now here I am, and my music shifted drastically and now I'm more into indie/alternative/pop/chill music. I still listen to rap every now and then but it's not as often as I used to.

When I was in middle school I had a friend who never really got into the rap phase. She had told me that she liked songs that had meaning. (not saying that rap songs can't have meaning) but she was really into more slow songs. At the time I never understood that either and then as I got older when life started to shift a lot, I took in music as my way of coping with whatever was thrown at me.

The older I got the more I realize that music was able to put my feelings into words when I couldn’t. I realize that a lot of people do listen to certain music because it helps them and then I started to really pay attention to the type of music that other people would listen to. No matter what genre they listen to there are always times when there were certain songs that had a lot of meaning and it probably meant a lot to them specifically and that's probably why they did listen to it.

That is the main reason for me and why I make so many playlists. It's because I have certain situations and feelings that only certain songs could explain. That's probably the best-worded explanation I can give.

Some of my friends tell me that they've learned so much about me just because of the music I listen to. If I'm really in a slump I'll listen to certain songs and I know that some people close enough with me will understand what I'm feeling because I listen to that specific song.

In conclusion, I think music is very important in everyone's life. Whether you listen to it every day or you don't this is just my opinion on it. I've always been really curious to see what people listen to, who their favorite artists are, etc. I may not always agree with what my friends listen to, but I respect it. For me, music is something I can talk about for a long time and I wish that I got to talk about that more with other people. But I'm also going to be honest, sometimes I'm very embarrassed about my music taste even though I really shouldn't be but in my eyes, my music is specifically catered to me and that it might not work for everyone else so I get nervous, but sometimes I forget that.

While my music is not for everyone, if you're interested in some of the playlists that I have, I'll link down some of my personal favorites and some specific songs and artists that I’ve been really vibing with. Thank you all for reading and for those who have subscribed to my posts. It means a lot of people take time to read my stuff. Feel free to send me any song suggestions or playlists because I actually listen to everything people send me! some people say they will but they won't but I'm not that person. You can send me a song whenever and I will let you know what I think since I'm gonna keep trying to expand my music. (Also Spotify is better than Apple Music)
