One of the MANY pictures from this trip.
Hello everyone, it’s been a while and the reason is because I was currently on spring break in Arizona! This post might be a hefty one but I hope you’ll stick along anyways.
So why Arizona? You might ask, So basically at the end of December, my friends and I had an online Zoom presentation night and in doing so after we all had presented, someone had brought up if we were planning on going anywhere for spring break this year because seniors usually have a very big spring break trip to like Mexico or something similar to that but because of covid, we aren’t able to do that. My friends and I had been planning to go to Mexico since my freshman year and it sucks that we don’t get to go. Our backup plan was Florida but my friends either didn’t want to go or couldn’t go to Florida. It was a very hectic time and so somebody had brought up Arizona because Florida was overhyped and from that moment, we had started planning AZ. I am not gonna pretend it was smooth and easy because it was extremely stressful and people were not cooperating. But luckily for me, I had Ava to help plan and we were able to do this in two weeks because usually planning for spring break could be a really long process.
After initial planning for two weeks, which included a zoom call, a lot of one on one conversations with parents, and a lot of arguing, we had finally successfully planned a spring break trip. From the time that we had finished booking our tickets and everything which was the beginning of January, the time between then and March had flown by very quickly and now here I am writing about my trip which ended yesterday.
Our trip was from March 11-18th and the first four days were spent in Scottsdale and the last three were spent in Lake Havasu City. Some people were only there for the first half of the trip and some were there for the full trip. In Scottsdale, we had 13 kids and in Havasu, we had 8, both parts have been very fun except the weather wasn't as great as we had expected in Scottsdale. It was cold and it rained and honestly we never really used the pool there because it was so cold and it wasn't heated, but we did get to use the hot tub a lot in the first house had lots to do outside besides the pool. The first night we got there we all picked our rooms and Ava and I had gotten the master bedroom because we planned the trip and all the other girls picked rooms upstairs while the boys all had to share one room and one bathroom downstairs. For as many people as we had this house was very cramped but we were able to push through and if I'm being honest I don't think many of us slept that much anyways. But we had played Uno and just settled into the house and went in the hot tub and that was all the consisted of the first night. The second day we had gone on a hike it was pretty chilly for the most part and we had a little bit of sun but it didn't last very long. We also went to dinner and I called in reservations at an Italian place but I forgot the name of it unfortunately and then we just went home and watched the movie National Lampoon’s Vacation. The third day we had gone to Old Town Scottsdale and walked around for a few hours and then went home and some people went to the hot tub and some played pool and then we went out to another place called Rosa’s Mexican Grill because people wanted Mexican food and then we had gone home and watched another movie which was Wolf of Wall Street. Then on our last full day in Scottsdale, we had gone to Topgolf because Betsy (Pete’s mother) wanted to celebrate his/our birthdays in Arizona and she had paid for everything and it was definitely an adventure. Golfing is not my thing and I genuinely suck at it… but I still had fun regardless (For all those that I made fun of playing golf, I am so sorry, it is so much harder than it looks). Then after we went on a hike but I didn't finish it because I ended up throwing up because my stomach was not sitting well with me after Top Golf food… maybe it was food poisoning, maybe I have stomach issues, who knows? But on the way down I met a random Freshman kid from Iowa and we got to bond. But sadly, Schramm had left early that day and then when we got back to the house we had a grill night and played bags/cornhole and the boys played some football. A lot of people were saying I have a hidden talent for bags because not gonna lie I was very good at it. While the weather wasn't what we wanted in Scottsdale we got to go shopping, hiking, play a lot of pool, bags, football, and hot tubbing. Overall it wasn't bad when you're with all your best friends.
Then on Monday, we were getting ready to go to Lake Havasu City and we had lost Nick, Sophie, and Brady as well and at first, I didn't realize the drive was going to be 3 1/2 hours so the car ride was extremely painful for me and I couldn't even fall asleep. But after a long car ride later, we had reached Lake Havasu City and it was the most beautiful place ever. We had gone to the house and it was the best house ever because it was so big and spacious and since they were only eight of us and three parents it made it better. This house had a heated pool and straight access to the desert and this time the boys didn't have to all share one room because there were so many beds. This house was perfect except there was one downside: The internet... we had very glitchy internet and sometimes it would disappear but it wasn't too bad because we all were then forced to not go on our phones as much. The first day there I jumped straight into the pool which was so warm and then we watched TV the whole night so it was a very chill day for the most part because we were so tired from driving. The group then watched Good Will Hunting in which I didn't get to watch because I was so tired that I fell asleep in the MASTER bedroom with the huge bed, bathroom, and access to the pool… I was living the life. The second day we had gone to Lake Havasu City and walked around and then ate at a restaurant called Blue Chair and it was some of the best food I've ever had in my life and the decorations on the food were very cute as well so I HIGHLY recommend. Then we had walked 1.6 miles to go find a beach and stumbled across the very secluded beach and no one else was there… But then when we left we realized that it was a private beach and that you had to pay to go to that area and that's why no one was there but we didn't know that until we had left. We then went home and then went back to somewhere in Lake Havasu to watch the sunset and it was very beautiful and we got some pictures. Then we got home and this was the most eventful night ever, I, unfortunately, cannot get too into detail but all I can say was “The Bahamas was great, the jungle not so much” this is an inside joke that only my friends and I will understand so I’m sorry if anyone else reading this is confused. That night was very eventful and I didn't go to sleep until 4:30 AM but it was a good night for me to get to know some people better and one that definitely will stick with me forever. Lastly her last full day we spent it at Lake Havasu as well and this time we actually went to the real beach and got to tan, and while the water was kind of cold, we all attempted to go in it. Afterward, we all just chilled back at the house and went in the pool some more and then went back to another place in Lake Havasu to watch our last sunset… and then we took more pictures. We had all gone to bed pretty early that night because we had to check out by 10 AM and we had to clean the house and everything but ironically we all ended up sleeping in even though that was the earliest we've ever slept… but in the morning it was a very big hassle trying to clean up but it all worked out and then we had another long 3 1/2 hour car ride but it didn't feel as long this time. In my car, my friends and I had gone to get Canes and crossed illegally to get there, and then we went straight to the airport and settled for a bit before getting on the plane. While I was at the airport the first section game for our boy's high school hockey team was happening and before we flew, I had gotten the final score that they won so ultimately the plane right back was very nice for me and I got to sleep for a bit as well.
In conclusion, this was an amazing trip. Even though it wasn't Mexico and we didn't go to Florida like everyone else, it was still very fun and obviously, things are so much better when you're doing it with your best friends. We also all came back without getting Covid either so ultimately this was very successful and I miss it already.
- Sincerely, TT
